Original Viz Magazine, Issue No. 279, October 2018, featuring a colourful illustrated front cover packed with classic Viz characters, celebrity references, music-related humour and spoof features.
The large VIZ masthead dominates the upper half of the cover, with the central cartoon artwork showing several exaggerated characters gathered together in a chaotic comic scene. The cover has Viz’s familiar mix of bright colours, parody and deliberately absurd British humour.
Prominent characters and strips advertised down the right-hand side include:
- Biffa Bacon
- The Fat Slags
- 8 Ace
- Mrs Brady
- Baxter Basics
- Drunken Bakers
- Gilbert Ratchet
The cover also advertises “The New Adventures of Kraftwerk”, illustrated at the lower-right with a stylised image of the German electronic music group dressed in matching red outfits.
Across the very top are further topical and celebrity-related references including Noel Edmonds, Count Dracula and ZZ Top, all clearly named on the cover.
The main lower-cover feature is a humorous Tutankhamun / Ancient Egypt-themed spoof, centred around an image of the famous golden funerary mask and a large headline about the “Curse of Tutankhamun”. The feature is presented in Viz’s characteristic tabloid-parody style and gives this issue a distinctive Egyptian theme.
The magazine combines classic Viz comic characters, music references, celebrity satire and historical parody, making Issue 279 a particularly busy and collectable-looking late-2010s issue.

Condition
Condition assessment is based on the single supplied front-cover image only. The back cover and interior pages are not shown, so their condition and completeness cannot be fully assessed.
The magazine shows noticeable general handling and storage wear, particularly around the spine, corners and outer edges.
The left-hand spine has visible rubbing, whitening and repeated stress creases running down much of its length. There are also several small nicks and worn areas along the spine edge.
A particularly noticeable flaw is a blue pen/ink mark or scribble on the upper-left portion of the front cover, over the pale area near the large VIZ masthead. This is clearly visible and should be considered when assessing the overall condition.
The top-left corner and upper edge show bending and light curling, with some waviness rather than lying completely flat.
There are light handling creases and surface ripples across the front cover, particularly around the left side and masthead area.
The bottom-left corner shows edge wear and rubbing, while the bottom-right corner is slightly curled/bent, with further light wear along the lower edge.
The right-hand outer edge also shows some minor bowing and handling wear.
Despite these defects, the front-cover colours remain strong and bright overall, with the artwork, masthead, issue number, date, headlines and barcode all clearly readable.
No major staining or large tears are visible in the supplied image, although the visible blue ink mark and spine wear are significant condition points.
