Original Viz Magazine, Issue No. 192, February 2010, featuring a large illustrated Roman-themed front cover in Viz’s distinctive British adult-humour style.

The main cover artwork shows several cartoon characters dressed as Roman soldiers / legionaries, with the large headline “ALE CAESAR!” across the lower half of the cover. The central artwork is bold and colourful, with Roman armour, helmets, sandals and period-style costumes used for the visual gag.

A major feature promoted on the right-hand side is “Sid the Sexist AD 122”, tying one of Viz’s best-known recurring characters into the Roman theme.

The top of the cover also advertises “Who’s Britain’s Best Boyle?”, with photographs used as part of the feature promotion and a note directing readers to page 43.

Another prominent celebrity-related cover feature references Maggie with the headline “Maggie Nude At Last!”, presented in Viz’s usual satirical and spoof-news style.

The lower cover lists a wide range of regular Viz characters and features, including:

  • 8 Ace
  • Wockey Canker
  • Billy the Fish
  • Gilbert Ratchet
  • Drunken Bakers
  • Fru T. Bunn
  • Jack Black
  • Rude Kid
  • Letterbocks
  • Top Tips
  • Profanisaurus

This gives the issue a strong mix of established Viz comic strips, recurring characters, spoof celebrity content and topical humour. The Roman-themed artwork and the Sid the Sexist AD 122 feature make the cover particularly distinctive compared with many standard Viz issues.

Condition

Condition assessment is based on the single supplied front-cover image only. The back cover and interior pages are not shown, so their condition and completeness cannot be fully assessed.

The magazine shows clear general handling and storage wear, with the most noticeable issues around the spine, corners and outer edges.

The left-hand spine is heavily worn in places, with visible rubbing, whitening and repeated horizontal stress marks running much of the way down. There are several small nicks and splits along the spine edge, particularly around the upper and middle sections.

The top-left corner is noticeably curled and creased, and the upper edge has some waviness rather than sitting completely flat. There is also visible bending and light surface creasing around the top-left portion of the large VIZ masthead.

The front cover has multiple handling creases and surface ripples, especially along the left side and around the outer margins. Some light discolouration/handling grime is visible on the pale background, most noticeably toward the left and lower portions of the cover.

The bottom-left corner shows wear and slight curling, while the bottom edge has light rubbing and minor bending.

The right-hand edge is slightly bowed/curling, with some visible edge wear and light creasing toward the upper-right and lower-right corners.

Despite the wear, the cover artwork, masthead, issue number, date and text remain clear and readable, and the colours remain reasonably strong overall. No obvious handwriting or major staining is visible in the supplied image.
