Original vintage NME (New Musical Express) Magazine, dated 4 October 1997, featuring Liam Gallagher of Oasis as the main cover star, alongside Richard Ashcroft of The Verve.

This is a particularly collectable issue from the height of the 1990s Britpop era, featuring coverage of Oasis and The Verve performing at London's famous Earls Court venue.

The front cover features a large colour photograph of Liam Gallagher, wearing a red shirt and standing in front of a microphone. His distinctive hairstyle and expression dominate the artwork.

A smaller inset photograph features Richard Ashcroft performing live, holding a microphone with both fists raised.

The main headline reads:

"OASIS and THE VERVE – Three nights out with the lads at Earls Court"

Accompanied by the large headline:

"COME ON!"

The issue captures two of Britain's most influential bands during a particularly significant period in their careers.

Oasis and The Verve – Earls Court Special

The principal attraction is NME's coverage of Oasis and The Verve at Earls Court.

The magazine advertises three nights of concert coverage, making it an interesting contemporary record of the British live music scene in autumn 1997.

At the time, Oasis were enjoying enormous popularity following the release of their third studio album, Be Here Now, in August 1997.

Meanwhile, The Verve were experiencing a major commercial breakthrough with their album Urban Hymns, released in September 1997.

The pairing of Liam Gallagher and Richard Ashcroft on the cover makes this an appealing issue for collectors of both bands.

The magazine is particularly relevant to fans interested in the Britpop movement, 1990s concert photography and contemporary music journalism.

Oasis Souvenir Poster – Important Information

The original cover prominently advertises:

"FREE!!! OASIS POSTER INSIDE"

And along the bottom:

"FREE INSIDE: LARGE OASIS SOUVENIR POSTER"

This identifies the issue as originally being published with a large Oasis souvenir poster.

Important: The supplied photograph shows the magazine's front cover only. The actual poster has not been photographed or independently confirmed to be present.

Therefore, the poster's inclusion, artwork, size and condition cannot be guaranteed.

The original poster promotion is nevertheless a distinctive feature of this particular NME edition.

Other Featured Artists and Articles

The front cover also advertises coverage of several notable bands and musicians:

  • Björk: The Icelandic singer's return is promoted with the headline "Björk's Back!", alongside a reference to her song "Jóga".

  • The Seahorses: The band associated with former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire is featured under the headline "Has the Squire Really Gone Out? The Seahorses Answer Their Critics".

  • Spiritualized: British space-rock and alternative rock band led by Jason Pierce.

  • Suede: One of the defining British alternative rock bands of the 1990s.

  • Hole: American alternative rock band fronted by Courtney Love.

  • No Doubt: American ska and alternative rock band fronted by Gwen Stefani.

  • Face: Listed among the cover's featured subjects.

  • Stereophonics: Welsh rock band emerging as a major name in British music.

  • The Rolling Stones: Legendary British rock band.

These artists demonstrate the magazine's coverage of Britpop, alternative rock, indie music and established rock performers during the late 1990s.

Massive 80-Page Issue

The cover prominently advertises:

"MASSIVE 80 PAGE ISSUE"

This identifies the publication as an 80-page edition, offering substantial music coverage from the period.

Its combination of Oasis, The Verve, Björk, Suede, Spiritualized and other major artists makes it an interesting snapshot of British music journalism in October 1997.

Collector Interest

This issue is particularly appealing for collectors of:

  • Oasis and Liam Gallagher memorabilia.

  • The Verve and Richard Ashcroft memorabilia.

  • Original 1990s NME publications.

  • Britpop and British indie rock history.

  • Earls Court concert memorabilia.

  • Vintage music journalism and photography.

The combination of two major Britpop-era performers, a distinctive front cover and the original souvenir promotion makes this a desirable period publication.

Condition

Pre-owned vintage condition, showing noticeable age-related wear, creasing and handling marks.

The following assessment is based on the single supplied front-cover photograph.

Front Cover: The original artwork remains clearly visible, with strong red, yellow and black colouring. Liam Gallagher's photograph, the Richard Ashcroft inset and the main headlines remain readable. There are visible surface creases, light rubbing and general handling wear.

Spine / Left Edge: The left-hand folded edge shows noticeable creasing, compression and waviness. There is some surface wear and minor irregularity along the edge, particularly towards the upper section.

Right Edge: The right-hand edge has visible age-related discolouration, slight waviness and minor wear. The paper appears somewhat uneven, with light curling towards the lower-right area.

Top Edge: The upper margin shows yellowing, light creasing and slight curling. The top-left corner appears bent and softened.

Bottom Edge: There is noticeable wear along the lower margin. A particularly visible crease and small split or tear appears near the bottom centre-right, extending through the pale margin beneath the cover artwork.

Corners: The corners show age-related softening and bending. The lower-right corner is slightly curled, while the lower-left corner shows handling wear.

Discolouration: The pale outer margins show visible yellowing and age-related toning, particularly along the right side and lower edge.

Surface Marks: Light marks, rubbing and horizontal handling creases are visible across the front cover. The darker printed areas also show minor surface wear.

Interior Pages: The interior pages and back cover have not been photographed, so their condition and completeness cannot be fully assessed.

Overall: A vintage copy with visible signs of age and handling, but with an attractive, clearly readable Oasis and The Verve cover. Suitable for a collector who appreciates original 1990s music publications and understands the condition of vintage newsprint.

Please examine the supplied photograph carefully, as it forms an important part of the condition description.
