Original vintage Murder Casebook – Issue 46, part of the Marshall Cavendish weekly true-crime series “Investigations into the Ultimate Crime.”

This issue is titled “Wanted Dead or Alive” and is devoted to notorious American outlaw and bank robber John Dillinger, one of the best-known criminal figures of Depression-era America.

The dramatic black cover features a large black-and-white portrait of John Dillinger, bordered in green, with the issue number 46 displayed prominently alongside. The headline reads:

WANTED – DEAD OR ALIVE

and the cover describes Dillinger as:

“The 1930s outlaw who blazed a trail of destruction across the USA.”

The magazine examines Dillinger's criminal career, his time in prison, subsequent robberies, escapes, police pursuit and the nationwide manhunt that made him one of the most infamous American criminals of the 1930s. Bibliographic information for this issue lists sections covering stages of the story including Unleashed, Breakout, Manhunt, Escape and Ambush, accompanied by period photographs and historical narrative.

This is an especially recognisable issue for collectors because John Dillinger remains one of the major names associated with American Prohibition/Depression-era crime history. Issue 46 is independently confirmed in Murder Casebook indexes as “Wanted Dead or Alive – John Dillinger.”

The original publication is a 32-page stapled magazine, approximately 21 x 29 cm, issued by Marshall Cavendish, London.
