Original vintage Mayfair – Entertainment For Men, September 1977, Volume 12 No. 9, priced at 60p when originally published.
This is a substantial 132-page “Super Summer Spectacular” issue from the late 1970s, combining Mayfair's period glamour photography with motoring, aviation, humour, fiction and lifestyle/editorial features.
The front cover uses a striking summer/beach composition with a brunette model posed beside a bright red chair against a pale coastal backdrop. The classic oversized red MAYFAIR masthead dominates the top of the cover, while the issue is also marked with Mayfair's period claim of having the largest UK men's-magazine circulation.
Models & Pictorial Features
The photographed contents page gives a particularly useful breakdown of the models and pictorials contained in this issue:
- Isabel – page 28, described as the issue's beach-themed feature
- Tina – page 44
- Bernice – page 60
- Joyce, Ing and Lyn – page 77, a three-model feature
- Barbara – additional pictorial feature
- Jessica – page 100
- George – page 116
The contents page also specifically illustrates Bernice at the top and identifies her feature on page 60.
For the title I have deliberately kept the keywords concentrated on the strongest model-related names, as requested, rather than adding unrelated editorial subjects purely for search traffic.
Magazine Contents
Beyond the glamour photography, the photographed contents page shows a varied selection of late-1970s Mayfair editorial material.
Notable features include:
- Gaming Guide – a feature covering casino do's and don'ts
- Plane Delights – a feature on aircraft connected with the Second World War
- What's In A Name?
- Carrie – one of Mayfair's recurring illustrated/editorial features
- Motoring – a retrospective sports-car feature
- Quest
- humour and joke sections
- fiction
- film and book coverage
- record offers
- back-number information
- reader letters and other period magazine services
The small photograph at the top of the contents page also shows a historic aircraft, tying into the aviation material advertised in the magazine.
Cover Headlines
Visible cover stories include:
“132-Pages Super Summer Spectacular”
as well as features centred on:
- a beach model feature
- an aviation/flying museum
- a university-themed pictorial
- countryside/farming-themed glamour
- casino gaming
These period headlines give the issue a very recognisable 1970s British men's-magazine presentation.
Condition
This is an original 1977 pre-owned magazine, so age-related wear should be expected.
From the supplied photographs I can see:
- front cover remains complete and visually bright
- colours and masthead still display strongly
- noticeable rubbing and handling wear around the cover edges
- bottom-left front corner has visible creasing, rubbing and small edge damage
- some wear and whitening along the spine
- light surface marks and general handling wear to the front
- mild waviness / curvature from storage
- corners show age-related softening
- contents page appears clean and firmly attached
- internal printing remains clear and easily readable
- normal age-related paper toning is present
- rear cover shows clear edge and corner rubbing
- rear upper/right corner has more noticeable scuffing and small creased/worn areas
- spine and lower edge show general shelf/storage wear
- no obvious handwriting is visible in the photographed areas
- no major detached pages or completely separated covers are visible in the photographs
Overall, I would describe it as a good vintage reading/collector copy with definite age, edge and corner wear, rather than a high-grade or near-mint example.
Please study all photographs closely, as they show the actual magazine being offered and form an important part of the condition description.
Postage & Packaging
The magazine will be packed carefully to reduce the risk of further wear during transit. Depending on the finished parcel size, it will be protected using a sturdy cardboard box and/or suitable bubble wrap, with particular attention given to the covers, spine, corners and outer edges to help prevent bending, crushing and impact damage.
