Original vintage Mayfair – Entertainment For Men, Volume 17 Number 1, dating from January 1982 and originally priced at 85p.

This is a substantial early-1980s British Mayfair issue featuring the magazine’s familiar mixture of glamour pictorials, humour, motoring, historical material, fiction and general-interest features.

The front cover has a predominantly clean white design with the large blue MAYFAIR masthead across the top. The cover model is dressed in a tartan-themed outfit with matching skirt, scarf and cap, and the main headline advertises a Miss UK finalist feature.

Models & Glamour Features

The photographed contents page gives a particularly useful model-by-model breakdown for this issue:

  • Samantha – page 14
  • Debbi – page 29, identified as the Miss UK Finalist
  • Charlotte – page 43, described as a Bath-based pictorial
  • Frankie – page 59
  • Joy – page 76
  • Amanda – page 84
  • Sherry – page 100
  • Maria – page 116

For title SEO I have deliberately concentrated only on model names, as requested. Debbi, Charlotte and Frankie are particularly useful keywords because they are clearly identified within the photographed contents page.

Cover Features

Visible front-cover headlines include material concerning:

  • a Miss UK finalist
  • Champagne Charlotte
  • Britain's first dive bomber
  • a beauty-feature subject associated with a burger bar
  • a Bristol-themed feature
  • a crossword-themed glamour pictorial
  • New Year resolutions
  • weightlifting
  • Civil War historical material
  • illustrated pub-sign humour

This gives the magazine a broad snapshot of the editorial style Mayfair was using at the beginning of the 1980s.

Magazine Contents

The contents page shows several non-model features alongside the glamour material.

Notable articles include:

Screwball Skua – a feature concerning Britain's first dive bomber.

The Modern Ms – period commentary on contemporary women.

Unravelling the Sealed Knot – a feature about Civil War re-enactment.

Carrie – another instalment of the recurring Mayfair feature.

There are also humour sections including card-game cartoons, pub-sign cartoons and joke material, together with motoring, fiction, reader services, film coverage and eating-out content.

The contents page additionally shows a small photograph connected with the Sealed Knot historical feature and a preview photograph for the Frankie pictorial.

Condition

This is a genuine vintage magazine dating from 1982, and the photographs show an attractive surviving copy with some expected age-related wear.

Visible condition points include:

  • front cover remains bright, colourful and strongly presentable
  • main cover artwork and masthead are clear
  • some light surface marks / handling wear are visible on the white areas
  • faint age-related marking and small specks can be seen in places
  • bottom-left front corner shows a small crease / softened area
  • slight edge and corner rubbing from storage
  • a small horizontal crease or handling line is visible toward the lower-left edge
  • right-hand cover edge remains generally straight with only light wear
  • contents page appears clean and firmly attached
  • internal text and printing remain sharp and readable
  • interior paper shows normal light age toning
  • no obvious handwriting is visible in the photographed areas
  • no major tears or detached pages are apparent from the supplied photographs

The rear cover has noticeably more visible storage wear than the front. From the angled photograph there is:

  • rubbing along the lower and outer edges
  • several small crease lines toward the bottom edge
  • light corner wear
  • small surface scuffs / marks
  • slight waviness consistent with age and storage

Overall, I would describe this as a good vintage collector/reading copy, with an attractive front cover and normal handling, edge and storage wear for a magazine now more than four decades old.

Please examine all supplied photographs carefully as they show the actual item being sold and form an important part of the condition description.

Postage & Packaging

The magazine will be packed carefully to help protect it during transit. Depending on the final parcel size, it will be sent using a sturdy cardboard box and/or protective bubble wrap, with additional attention given to the front and rear covers, spine, corners and outer edges to reduce the chance of bending, crushing or impact damage.
