Large double-sided Fast Car magazine fold-out poster featuring two individually identified modified cars: Matt Makarucha’s Honda S2000 on one side and James Hellewell’s Volkswagen Scirocco on the reverse.

I checked the smaller print as well as the main photographs: Fast Car branding is visible beside the photographer credits, confirming the publication.

Both sides use professional night-time automotive photography and focus heavily on the customised styling of the featured cars. The poster contrasts a glossy black Honda S2000 in a city-street setting with a dramatically styled white Volkswagen Scirocco fitted with vivid green wheels.

Side 1 – Matt Makarucha’s Honda S2000

The first side is explicitly captioned:

“MATT MAKARUCHA’S S2000”

It features a heavily modified Honda S2000 finished in glossy black/dark paintwork and photographed from a low front three-quarter angle.

The low camera position particularly emphasises the car’s stance, wheels and modified front-end appearance.

Visible features include:

  • Glossy black/dark bodywork
  • Very low ride height
  • Large aftermarket alloy wheels
  • Polished/deep-dish style wheel rims
  • Low-profile tyres
  • Modified front bumper and lower styling
  • Recognisable Honda S2000 headlight design
  • Dark windscreen
  • Windscreen graphics/lettering
  • Low and wide modified appearance

The highly reflective paintwork captures the lights and colours of the surrounding city environment.

The photograph was taken in an urban street setting with several businesses visible behind the car. A large “Classics Hair Salon” sign is particularly prominent, alongside other illuminated shop signs and windows.

This gives the photograph a distinctive late-night street/cruise atmosphere rather than a conventional studio or daytime car shoot.

Along the border is the printed identification “MATT MAKARUCHA’S S2000”.

The lower area also carries the photography credit:

“photo: Steve Whalley”

with the small Fast Car branding printed alongside it.

Side 2 – James Hellewell’s Volkswagen Scirocco

The reverse is captioned:

“JAMES HELLEWELL’S SCIROCCO”

and features a highly customised Volkswagen Scirocco.

This car is finished in bright white and photographed against a dark night-time city backdrop.

Its most striking visual feature is the set of large vivid lime-green wheels, which contrast dramatically with the white bodywork.

Visible modifications and styling include:

  • White bodywork
  • Bright lime-green aftermarket wheels
  • Low-profile tyres
  • Extremely low ride height
  • Modified front bumper
  • Large front air openings
  • Dark front grille/detailing
  • Custom lower body styling
  • Dark windows
  • Wide, aggressive modified stance

The car is photographed from a low front three-quarter angle, making the front bumper and large green front wheel particularly prominent.

The background uses strong motion-blur and long-exposure-style lighting effects. Blue, purple, white and orange lights streak through the dark surroundings, creating a sense of movement and speed around the sharply presented car.

This photographic treatment gives the Scirocco side a very different appearance from the S2000 side: the Honda is presented within a recognisable street environment, whereas the Scirocco photograph has a much more dramatic motion-based visual style.

Along the border is the printed wording:

“JAMES HELLEWELL’S SCIROCCO”

A photography credit in the corner reads:

“photo: Craig Warwick”

with the small Fast Car branding immediately alongside it.

Overall Poster

This is a particularly good period piece for collectors of Fast Car magazine, Honda S2000 memorabilia, Volkswagen Scirocco memorabilia and British modified-car culture.

Rather than using generic vehicle photographs, both sides identify the featured cars/owners and credit the automotive photographers, giving the poster a clear editorial connection to Fast Car magazine.

The photographed measuring guide suggests the unfolded poster reaches approximately 80 cm along its longest dimension, although this is an approximate measurement based on the supplied photographs.

No accompanying magazine is shown.

Condition

Pre-owned condition with prominent original fold lines, additional creasing and general handling/storage wear.

Both sides have been checked carefully from the supplied photographs.

The poster has been folded into multiple panels and has a strong vertical centre fold together with several horizontal fold lines. These remain clearly visible across both car photographs.

Honda S2000 Side

On the Matt Makarucha S2000 side, a prominent vertical fold runs through the centre of the city scene and vehicle photograph.

Several horizontal folds cross the entire width, including through the car, wheels, road and surrounding buildings.

There is visible creasing and paper stress around the fold intersections, with some slight rippling where the sheet no longer lies completely flat.

The dark printed areas make the fold lines particularly noticeable when they catch the light.

The outer edges show light handling/storage wear and some waviness. The lower edge is slightly uneven when opened.

The corners show minor softening and bending rather than remaining perfectly sharp.

There are also scattered light surface impressions and minor creases visible against the darker printed areas.

Volkswagen Scirocco Side

The Scirocco side displays the same network of original folds.

The vertical centre fold runs through the car and night-time background, while several horizontal folds cross the vehicle, including through the bodywork and wheel areas.

There is noticeable localised creasing around the central fold intersections, including some wrinkling visible against the white paintwork.

The sheet has some slight paper waviness and does not sit completely flat when opened.

The outer edges show light storage wear and minor curling/unevenness, particularly where the horizontal folds meet the edges.

The corners have some minor handling wear.

Despite the folding, the printed colours remain strong. The Honda side retains its deep black bodywork and atmospheric city lighting, while the Scirocco side remains particularly striking with its white bodywork and bright green wheels against the dark blurred background.

I cannot see an obvious large tear, missing section, handwriting, heavy staining or tape repair in the supplied photographs.

Overall Condition

A complete-looking Fast Car double-sided fold-out poster with prominent original fold lines, some additional creasing, fold-intersection stress, slight paper waviness and minor edge/corner handling wear.

It is not a pristine or crease-free example, but both vehicle images remain strong and highly displayable when opened.

Condition assessment is based strictly on the two supplied images.
